Women are all basically crazy?
It is however the level of crazy and insanity that varies from female to female, and that goes for young women as well, maybe even more so. In the early 1800s Psychiatry became a medical specialty and around this same time period Insane Asylums became wide spread with the majority of the residence being women. |
Victorian Era
During the Victorian era, most people, psychiatrists included, believed a woman’s place was in the home. She should be subordinate to her husband and dedicated to maternal and domestic responsibilities and if she rebelled then she was committed to the insane asylum. This was usually at her husband’s or father’s request and she generally had no right to contest or appeal. Victorian psychiatry claimed male dominance was therapeutic and the doctor ruled the asylum like a father ruled his family.
Even up until the 1960s and 1970s women were still organized around Victorian stereotypes of the loving mother and dutiful housewife. Influential feminist writers of the time criticized psychiatry and they argued it was one of the main ways society controlled women and women who did not behave ‘properly’ risked ending up in psychiatric care.

Use of Minor Tranquilizers
The most famous was diazepam, introduced in 1963 under the trade name Valium. It became known as ‘mother’s little helper’, after a song by the Rolling Stones. Concerns about minor tranquilizers being addictive arose in the late 1960s with amusing stories about ‘smartly dressed junkies’ and ‘medical addicts’, appearing in mainstream women’s magazines and advice columns throughout the 1970s.
The popularity of these drugs was a reflection of how many women in the 1960s and 1970s felt about their lives. It also suggested that women were giving in to the pressures of usually male psychiatrists and their dissatisfaction was treated as a medical problem rather than a spur to political change. Feminist writers warned psychiatric drugs could silence women, as asylums had. Today these drugs have been replaced with so called Antidepressants not called crazy pills anymore although they are basically prescribed because of the same symptoms.

Mental Instability Women are crazy in the sense that they do and think differently then men, they look at everything from a totally different perspective then men do. But does this make them any crazier then men? In the psychiatric sense no, men have just as many mental issues as women, men just chose to keep it to themselves because it makes them look weak. |
Depression, anxiety, psychological distress, sexual violence, domestic violence and escalating rates of substance use affect women to a greater extent than men across different countries and different settings. Pressures created by their multiple roles and gender discrimination and other associated factors of poverty, hunger, malnutrition, overwork, domestic violence and sexual abuse, combine to account for women's poor mental health.
Boys and Girls
The differentiation between the experiences of males and female begins at a young age. In many cultures there is a childhood preference for boys over girls. There is also a pressure to learn gender stereotypes and conform to the role of little boy or girl. In adolescence the development of secondary sex characteristics is an important rite of passage. A high value is placed on physical appearance with breast size and thinness being promoted as important to a female’s worth. Adolescent girls are encouraged to form a gender personality comprised of admirable feminine traits. In adulthood women face challenges related to mothering and work. Many women feel that although they work outside of the home they come home to “the second shift”.

Ask a Woman
If you were to ask a woman if she thought she was crazy you would probably get a smile and a “maybe” not a no or yes, but maybe. For some women, being crazy is almost a badge of honor they admit it freely and in some cases, with pride. It just adds to the feminine mystique. For others, they’re the sane ones and men are crazy. Most women do agree on one thing though, if they are crazy, it’s at least partially the fault of men for driving them crazy.
Another part of the reason that men think women are crazy is that men are simpler and more direct. If a man is upset because somebody took the last muffin, he’ll probably say “Hey put that down, I wanted that!” A woman, would let the person take the muffin, but then allow that event to color her interaction with that person or people in general for the rest of the day until finally she explodes about something completely unrelated.
Women are emotional creatures; men don’t have a problem with this until it effects how the woman treats her man. Women, as a rule, are more in touch with their emotions and more intuitive than men. That makes women sometimes appear to be illogical and just a bit crazy, but men are aware of this and woman need not use it against them.

Crazy is as Crazy does
“Crazy” is such a convenient word for men, perpetuating their sense of superiority. Men are logical; women are emotional. Emotion is the antithesis of logic. When women are too emotional, men say they are being irrational crazy or wrong. Women hear it all the time that they are overreacting or they worry or stress over things to much or you’re over-thinking it, don’t be so sensitive, stop being so crazy. It’s a form of gas lighting telling a woman that their feelings are wrong and that they don’t have the right to feel the way they do. |
Minimizing somebody else feelings is a way of controlling them, if they no longer trust their own feelings and instincts they have come to rely on then someone else telling them how they’re supposed to feel is going to go over like a lead brick.
If you are a man, telling a woman how she is suppose to feel it is just wrong, its OK to think it to yourself but it would be very smart to just keep it to yourself. Men are not the smartest tools in the tool shed when it comes to talking to women and men should be the last ones to say anything about a woman’s feelings or how they should feel. Men are socialized to be disconnected from their emotions and the only manly feelings they’re supposed to have are stoic silence or anger. Men are taught that to be emotional is to be feminine. As a result, men don’t have a handle on their own emotions meaning that men are especially ill-equipped at dealing with a woman’s.
The Insanity of It All
For thousands of years men have been telling women how they should feel, look, act and behave, is it any wonder why women feel the way they do toward men. Most men treat women with great respect and appreciation for all they do and put up with, but there are many men still to this day who do not. You see it on TV almost everyday where a woman or young girl is violently beaten, raped or murdered and usually at the hands of a male who they knew or were close. Yes woman have their own sort of special crazy and so do men, and woman will certainly not waste time letting them know about it.
Women are especially brutal when it comes to their mate or partner and have no hesitation on letting them know their faults and what they need to be doing. Although men do not find this kind of torture appealing, woman use it and it generally gets them in trouble. Just like men calling a woman crazy, insane, fat or ugly, telling a man he is worthless, lazy and needs to work harder is basically the same thing. People’s emotions are very touchy area’s and caution should always be used, think before you speak. If it is going to hurt someone’s feelings it would be best to keep it to yourself.
