Chance and necessity the beginning of all life, organisms and all humans. Basically we are all historical accidents. How in the world can a single cell, tens of thousands of different kinds of molecules connected together create the intricacies of a human infant? The answer is, no one knows.
For thousands of years humans have tried to find answers to the beginnings of life on this wonderful life giving planet of ours, but still to this day no one knows how that single cell, gave rise to a complete structure, a organized whole.
At it's deepest roots, science grows by the questions we ask, but if we, and past eons of scholars have not begun to understand the power of spontaneous selection then neither did Darwin. Evolution is basically as Jacques Monod stated, "Chance caught on the wing". We have come to understand however that selection is the only source of order in organisms and it would be foolish or stubborn for us to believe that spontaneous selection isn't the sole source of order in humans.
“If it could be demonstrated that any complex organ existed, which could not possibly have been formed by numerous, successive, slight modifications, my theory would absolutely break down. But I can find no such case.” ― Charles Darwin, The Origin of Species
As many more individuals of each species are born, as we see daily, there will be struggles to survive. This struggle will change how an individual species will evolve and change in order to give it a better chance for survival. This new species will then breed or propagate a new and modified form. Natural selection is a very slow process over many thousands of years forming new species with no limit to the number of changes. In humans you can see this with all the different races, sizes, shapes, strengths, weaknesses, intelligence a vast list of modifications from the original single cell.
"Man at last knows he is alone in the unfeeling immensity of the universe, out of which he has emerged only by chance. His destiny is nowhere spelled out, nor is his duty. The kingdom above or the darkness below; it is for him to choose" - Jacques Monod
The seemly random mutations we've seen in humans is most certainly a spontaneous reaction to the environment from which we have evolved. Very elaborate, constructed forms, so different from each other and yet completely dependent on each other for our survival as a species. As we struggle to maintain our existence we continue to struggle with differing opinions in modern evolutionary theory, with many still continuing to hold onto biblical or supernatural explanations for human existence.
Natural selection has become the unifying theory of the life sciences. The theory explains the diversity of living organisms and their adaptation to the environment. It makes sense of the geologic record, bio geography and parallels in embryonic development. It has also become essential to applied sciences such as medicine and agriculture. Despite the scientific consensus, a religion-based political controversy has developed over how evolution is taught in schools, especially in the United States.
For years there was serious scientific objections to the process of natural selection as the key mechanism of evolution, mainly religious objections. In response to these objects considerable changes were made to the scientific findings, which were mainly about the age of the Earth and heredity. Most of this has been resolved in the 20th century, with the scientific community overwhelmingly placing the Earth at billions of years old and not thousands and heredity is most certainly from natural or spontaneous selection.
Spontaneous selection is said to be in an often natural and sudden way without a lot of thought or planning, where as Natural selection is existing in or caused by nature and not made or caused by humans. Spontaneous selection makes more sense for the evolution of humans, although there may be some objections from the scientific community.
