Humor is the tendency of particular cognitive experiences to provoke laughter and provide amusement. People of all ages and cultures respond to humor "If" something humorous is said. Many people however, are incapable of recognizing humor, thus are never amused and tend to avoid smiling or even laughing at something funny and are considered to have no sense of humor.
The hypothetical person lacking a sense of humor would likely find the behavior induced by humor to be inexplicable, strange, or even irrational. People like this normally have some form of brain damage or are deaf at some level, they will in turn make what they think are jokes, laughing out loud while remaining oblivious to the fact that no-one is laughing, similar to someone with dementia.
It is possible these people suffer from some sort of mental disorder, something that a brain scan would possibly detect and drugs may compensate for, but those with severe disorders say a Schizoid, now that person is completely detached and aloof and prone to introspection and fantasy, hysterically twitching and laughing out loud at nothing.
This is actually quit funny to watch, however, doing so would be considered an antisocial personality disorder on it's own. characterized by a callous unconcern for the feelings of others and probably a borderline Narcissist, maybe a little self-absorbed, intolerant, selfish, and insensitive. Generally these folks are fun to watch as well, they are easily provoked into fits of rage, very destructive and have the need to seek revenge. Such ‘narcissistic rage’ can have disastrous consequences for all those standing near by so be prepare to run.
The majority of people with a personality disorders are comedians, artist, and actors who typically display high levels of psychotic characteristics, which are those creative elements that are needed to produce humor.
There was a recent study done on female comedians which asked about schizophrenic and bipolar experiences as well as magical thinking, telepathy and other paranormal events. The study found female comedians had a reduced ability to feel social and physical pleasure as well as an avoidance toward intimacy – impulsive non-conformity and lack of mood-related self-control. The study concluded that female comedians psychotic personality traits where much higher then men. However, it wasn't conclusive that it made them more humorous.
What I am trying to convey here is this. Everything above was meant to be humorous, some will think it is, others will not. None of it is true or ever happened, but, I will say this, I was laughing out loud hysterically and alone while writing it. What's that tell you??
