Originality is an unexplored territory a voyage of discovery and not following the main road. Discoveries are made by not following instructions, using the imagination to guide you to new frontiers and places no one has gone before and the courage to open your eyes and visualize these new landscapes.
Most people when they hear the word genius relate it to Mathematical, Science or other Technical fields of study, but in reality it is also associated with literary works, performance arts and most anything demonstrating great originality. These people normally have strong intuitions and insights about their domains and build on them with tremendous energy. It shouldn't be any wonder that many of these people are diagnosed with mental disorders.
People who have unique perceptions about their field generally are more open minded, less prone to follow the perceived laws and rules and follow their own imagination and intuitions. They show the unique ability to think independently and creatively and have qualities of being novel or unusual. A study done by Harvard University called Multiple Intelligences showed there were at least seven types of intelligences each with its own type of genius.
This theory is very important because it "Empowers Learners" it doesn't restrict intelligence or genius to just a single factor. Intelligence and genius are normally measured with an intelligence quotient (IQ) test, but this only measures a persons ability to complete simple cognitive tasks and then labels learners to a specific level of intelligence. It does not and can not identify those with distinct developmental progressions, like savants, prodigies and other exceptional people. By placing labels on people from an IQ test children in their learning years are the most susceptible to this label and it will have lasting effects on their learning potential. You are either intelligent or your not based on one single factor is a very weak correlation. For example, the theory postulates that a child who learns to multiply easily is not necessarily more intelligent than a child who has more difficulty on this task. One may learn at a slower pace but this doesn't mean they can't master the ability at some point.

introverted or disconnected from society, because it is society that generally causes a person to pull inward and get away from all the narrow mindedness and labels that are placed on them. To be creative, original and inventive you have to get away from the common and limited visions of others and society as a whole. It is quoted by many that nothing original can be accomplished, it has already been done, but this would certainly be a closed minded and irrational statement because almost everyday something new and original is released
Sadly society generally perceives genius in a similar way that it perceives the ignorant or a person with the characteristics of a genius is looked at as a person disconnected from society. Because a person may work remotely or at a distance doesn't make them |
Theodore H. White.
The above quote is correct, it would be the narrow minded who would say something so blatantly wrong and different. Although the word music and what it implies will never change, new music comes out all the time. Art will be art, but new art is released regularly, science will be science but new discoveries are inevitable. To close your eyes to any new original idea or frontier is just to limiting and should be rejected.
“That which is original creates a new origin. That which is original, by definition, must stray off the previously worn paths. It must wander; it must err.” ― Blake Charlton
Genius is a talent for producing something for which no determinate rule can be given, originality comes from not following some rule and allowing your mind to wonder and imagine. Creativity, originality and our imagination are the principal marks of genius, whether in math, music, art, literature and many others you are only limited if you accept being labeled, or you believe that nothing new can be created, don't believe labels placed on you from test and never stop imagining, and never give up on being original.
